Dwight Deworge

Deworge renders realistic, detailed drawings out of passion. The renderings create enjoyment and a calming of his spirit. It does not matter how long it takes. He is rendering for himself and for others to bask in glowing enlightenment and enjoyment. They also uplift, bringing joy, fun, and gratification to those that see and own his art. After a meeting, he noticed people remained caught up in the cultural enrichment and enjoyment of his art, remembering and sharing those feelings. He indicated it was vitally important his art achieved those goals. See his statement below the bio information.

Deworge is a fine art artist, author, and instructor. He has been a draftsman for more than 50 years and has spent more than 20 years drawing sculptures at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. That place is his second home. His formal training took place at The Academy of Fine Arts, Washington University, St. Louis, MO. Later, he spent time at the Art Students League in NYC. His work was accepted in numerous national juried competitions winning various prizes and honorable mentions after completing his training. Still, life was a struggle for the artist. He remembers being a starving artist during various periods in his life. But, he loved the visual fine arts reaching to perfect his drawing techniques akin to the Old Masters. His renderings were published as notecards and prints. Originals were purchased by various art collectors, including the U.S. government for the U. S. Kabul Embassy.

Passers-by admired his renderings of the sculpture during their visits to the Met. It is the fine attention to detail that captures their eyes. In fact, a Deworge drawing is sometimes so realistic that it looks like a 3-D photograph. The artist has also written a book titled Drawing Realistically: Fundamentals Of An Optical Approach. Thus far, its distribution is limited to art students coming to the Met. The manual titled The Six Principles For Drawing Classically, which can be purchased through this site, distills the essential information from that book.

Deworge was quoted to say,My drawing classes, rendering manual, and personal renderings on paper with pencil and charcoal are created for all to enjoy and be culturally enriched. I am fascinated with Realism. It offers a universal language understood by all regardless of ethnicity or culture. Rendering realistically is my beloved style and forte. It does not matter how long the drawing takes. I have the patience and passion to include the details. My enjoyment is the day-to-day acquisition of knowledge when I draw. How marvelous and complex are Nature’s conceptualized human creations! Are the forms and their details not worthy to be captured in a rendering on paper? Drawing is also exuberantly worthwhile if it can uplift, delight, and fascinate people with enduring enjoyment and gratification long after meeting me. I want people to have that experience every time they look at my art. Each of us is given a unique talent. Rendering a realistic work is mine. I will do nothing else”.
